The Need

More than ever before, personal and financial success requires education beyond a high school diploma. Yet too many promising young people don’t go to college because of limited finances, support, or understanding of the college admissions system. Currently, in the State of California, students of color make up half of the K-12 school population, yet they continue to be significantly underrepresented in higher education. As a competitive, diverse, and technology-based society, we can no longer afford to educate only a select few.
Our Mission

FCE’s mission is to increase the number of students of color and low-income students pursuing a bachelor’s degree by providing the necessary support and services to prepare them for college.
Our Vision

FCE is about more than simply getting kids into college. Our vision is to create community change and to significantly alter a community’s perception about the attainability of higher education. Our impact is beginning to be felt as we see the transformation among our families who now believe their children will go to college; it’s no longer just a dream. By engaging both students and parents in our work, we are creating a community of learners who are armed with the right tools and information. Together, they play a pivotal role in sharing information with other families about how best to take advantage of school resources to navigate the college admissions process, thus catalyzing change in the larger community. This capacity-building vision is what we believe will ultimately change a community’s expectations about higher education attainment.
