Founded explicitly to create a community of learners in East Palo Alto, a city with historically low levels of academic achievement, Foundation for a College Education is a shining example of local impact and global reach. In a community where only 15 percent of adults over 25 hold a college degree and high school dropout rates hover at 70 percent, FCE is determined to change those outcomes for the next generation. All of FCE’s seniors enroll in college, and 85% of them graduate within 5 years.

While enabling high school students to graduate from a four-year college or university is an important goal, FCE has a larger vision. We are strongly committed to creating a cadre of leaders who will help transform the East Palo Alto community in positive ways.

We also encourage the participation of others who are committed to equity in education. Whether you live or work close by, or wish to support FCE from afar, you can take advantage of these opportunities.

In December of 2003, I graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Liberal Studies. I decided to return to East Palo Alto…to give back to FCE, the organization that has given so much to me over the years! I worked for two years at FCE as a Program Assistant and now I am a volunteer College Coach. I am happy to be supporting my community and the younger FCE students with their college endeavors."
