      Volunteer

When you work directly with students enrolled in FCE, you’re not only sharing academic and life-planning skills, you’re serving as a role model. Your own experiences – college, career, books you’ve read, places you’ve lived – can open new horizons for students just starting to explore the world. Through your example, our students can see that a college education is indeed a viable option. Become a college coach or an academic tutor.

Mentors/College Coaches

The College Coach serves as an academic mentor for a small group of students. Coaches monitor students' academic progress, advise them on the college admissions process, and lend moral support as our students work towards their goal of attending college.

Commitment: 5-8 hours a month, plus required attendance at a monthly student/parent meeting, the 3rd Wednesday of the month

Academic Tutors

Tutoring opportunities at FCE:

1) Group Tutors: Group tutors provide general academic assistance on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 – 8 p.m. FCE compiles a pool of group tutors who are responsible for attending the weekly tutoring sessions on alternate days and weeks.

Commitment: 4 hours, every other week / 8 hours per month

2) Individual Tutors: Individual academic tutors provide academic assistance in specific subject areas, while helping our students hone their basic skills, study habits, and self-confidence. Individual tutors work with an assigned student once or twice a week depending on the student’s schedule.

Commitment: 2-3 hours a week

Getting Started

Please contact us regarding the specific volunteer opportunity that interests you. We will send you more information about that position along with an application. Once we receive your completed application, we will schedule an interview. Please note that state law requires that all volunteers who work with minors be fingerprinted. We have simplified this process for you by having the necessary paperwork at our office.

Thank you for your interest in FCE!
