FCE Community Bids Farewell to Long-time Executive Director
Stephanie Wick
By Alexandra Bernadotte
On June 21, 2006, the entire FCE community gathered to bid farewell to Stephanie Wick, FCE’s long-time Executive Director. Over 150 guests filled the Palo Alto Unified School District’s Board room to thank, honor and celebrate Stephanie for her tireless efforts to ensure that higher education is accessible to all students and for transforming the lives of so many families.
As part of the celebration, nine FCE students, one from each of the high school graduating classes who have gone to college during Stephanie’s tenure at FCE, shared a few words about the impact Stephanie has had on their lives. Ajayi Lawrence, a sophomore at Amherst College, remarked:
“I'm speaking for all the college students when I say: our individuality is ours; our achievements are ours; your expectations are now ours. Thank you, Stephanie, for giving us the road map to accomplishing our dreams and for showing us that high expectations do lead to high achievement. Thank you for all you have done for me, my family, and this community.”
Stephanie has been an exceptional and inspirational leader over the years and we will miss her terribly. The entire FCE community intends to leverage the solid foundation she has built to ensure our work of fostering equity and access in higher education is sustained.
