Antoinette Battiste becomes FCE’s Interim Executive Director
By Sharon Nelson Barber (Vice President, Board of Directors) and Kenneth Jones (Immediate Past President, Board of Directors)

Foundation for a College Education (FCE) is pleased to announce that as of August 1, 2006, Antoinette Battiste, current FCE Board President, will assume the role of Interim Executive Director. Antoinette has been actively involved with FCE for seven years, serving as Vice President of the Board for the past five years. She has made significant contributions in the areas of governance, strategic planning and evaluation, and has played a key role in guiding FCE to its current level of organizational and operational effectiveness. Antoinette has held senior level program management positions with various technology companies in Silicon Valley, including Symbol Technologies, Palm, 3Com and Hitachi. A long-time volunteer with the YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula, Antoinette served on the Board of Directors for 12 years, five of them in the capacity of president. She is also a founding member of the YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula Donor Advised Fund Committee, an advised fund of the Women's Foundation of California.

As the first person in her family to graduate from college and as the parent of a high school sophomore who will soon head to college, Antoinette believes deeply in issues of equity and access and is committed to ensuring that all students receive a quality education. Her own personal story ties her deeply to our FCE students and parents. Born and raised in Compton, California, Antoinette made her way to the Branson School and then to Stanford University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and African American Studies. Antoinette also holds an MBA in Information Systems from Golden Gate University.

Antoinette’s past professional experiences, nonprofit governance expertise and demonstrated commitment to FCE’s mission make her an excellent fit, and we are honored that she has stepped up to assume this role. Her leadership, combined with the tremendous support of our dedicated staff, volunteers, advisors, Board, students and parents, make us well poised to continue to create meaningful community change by helping even more students of color realize their dream of a college education.
