April 18, 2007

EAST PALO ALTO, CA -- Foundation for a College Education (FCE) announced today the appointment of Anna Waring as their new Executive Director. Waring received her undergraduate degree from Williams College and a Ph.D. in Education Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University. Dr. Waring is currently the President of Josephinum Academy, a multicultural girl’s Catholic college preparatory school in Chicago. She will assume her new role on July 1, 2007.

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Waring has over twenty-five years of experience in the field of education. In addition to working as an administrator and senior executive for several nonprofit organizations, she has served as a faculty member and assistant dean at DePaul University. During her time at Stanford, she worked with students and faculty to help establish the Haas Center for Public Service. Dr. Waring has won numerous awards for her commitment to education including the Williams College Bicentennial Medal for Outstanding Leadership in Education and the DePaul University Excellence in Public Service Award.

“Because of my own educational journey, I understand both the challenges and the life-changing opportunities that come with having to walk a path very different from most of the people in your family or your neighborhood. I believe and know first-hand the power that institutions have to alter life chances for young people. FCE’s mission fits very closely with my own values and it is an honor to be joining an organization with such an impressive record of success,” said Dr. Waring. .

In announcing the appointment, FCE Board Chair Sharon Nelson-Barber commented: “Anna has demonstrated a life-long commitment to serving underrepresented students of color. She impressed the search committee with her warmth, strong research and academic background, broad management expertise, and passion for our mission and vision. We are delighted to welcome her to FCE.” .
